We address this petition to the European Commission, the European Parliament,  EPSCO 1 and EYCS 2 .

Millions of Europeans 3 endure post-COVID symptoms (long COVID),  enduring months or even years of battling extremely debilitating symptoms4.

Directly or indirectly, long COVID is a syndrome that can affect us, regardless of race, sex or age.

I. Investment in Research

Health, Economics, and Labour ministers, as well as ministers of Education from the 27 member states of the European Union, together with the European Commission, the European Parliament,  members of EPSCO and EYCS, are called upon to increase funds for and centralise the coordination of scientific research  so as to try to discover potential treatments against Long COVID.

II. Social and Professional Support

European Ministers of Labour and Social Affairs are urged to recognise and act upon the consequences of Long COVID on the workforce5

The implementation of support plans for patients suffering from this disease  (many of whom face exclusion from the labour market and live under conditions of social and economic precarity)  is requested.

In addition the establishment of measures is requested to allow European citizens affected by this disease to access specialised treatment centers.

 III. European Platform

We believe The European Union should set up a multilingual platform dedicated to health professionals, researchers and patients, thus allowing the collection and sharing of information on long COVID, as well as providing recommendations and support to patients for managing their symptoms and improving their quality of life.

IV. Pediatric Long COVID6

Research and treatments focus mainly on adults, leaving minors in need with limited support from the medical and educational community.

EPSCO &  EYCS must notify all European Ministers of Education and Health, we believe, to set up  as soon as possible, research and awareness programs on the effects of Long COVID in children and adolescents.
